DSCF0338 MarcoP RAINBlack Elk was born in 1863 on the Little Powder River, in what is now Wyoming. Like his father before him, Black Elk would become a warrior, as well as a medicine man or priest of the Oglala Lakota (Sioux) tribe.

Green River, Wyoming was the starting point from which John Wesley Powell started his famous expeditions of the Green River, the Colorado River and the Grand Canyon in 1869, Black Elk would have been 6 years old…
